Rice+Urad Dal+Chana Dal Mixtures for making Dhokla

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups Rice
  • 1 cup Urad Dal
  • 1½ tsp Salt or as required.
  • ½ cup Gram Dal(Chana Dal)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Seeds
  • 3 tbsp Green Chili+Ginger Paste
  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tsp Dry Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tbsp Curd
  • 1 Pinch Cooking Soda
  • ½ cup Poha

Recipe to a traditional Gujarati non-fried yellow 'Dhokla/Idada' snacks in five easy steps.

Step1

Take 3 cups Rice, 1 cup Urad Dal & ½ cup Chana Dal in one vessel; mix it and wash properly two three-time

Now take good amounts of pure water and fill in the vessel, more than 1½ inch of that mixture level, and cover it.

Keep aside for seven hours.

Step2

After 7 hours, strain all water from it; wash it, and coarsely grinding half-half quantities 2 times, in a mixer by adding curd both times.

Take all these ground mixtures in a separate bowl. After that wash Poha and grind it also and mix in ground mixtures.

The batter for making yellow Dhokla Recipe

Make a paste of green chili in this same mixer jar(for making green chili paste- take 1inch of the ginger piece & 6 nos. green chili).

Now all ingredients in ground mixtures(except sesame seeds), 1 tbsp oil, and 1 pinch Cooking Soda and blend all things with a big spoon in one direction.

Now cover this bowl and put it aside for 10 hours to get ferment of batter.

Step3

After 10 hours, make ready the Dhokla plate of the steam cooker by greasing with oil, spreading the batter, and sprinkle the sesame seeds as shown in the picture (If the steam cooker having 2 plates then you have to repeat the above procedure 2 times).

Step4

Now, fill with a few required quantities of water in the empty steam cooker put batter's spread plates into the cooker, cover the lid of the cooker, and start boiling it on a medium-high flame.

Yellow Idada/Dhokla is ready to serve.

Step5

Appx 20 minutes take to cook the Dhokla properly.

After 20 mins Dhokla is ready to serve as shown in the picture.

Non-fried idada/dhokla is best to eat along with chutney as snacks.
